Doing church simply so that we can simply serve

Transforming Prayer

If you want to get serious with Jesus, covenant with someone to pray the following transformational prayer.

Give it thirty days and journal what happens.

Jesus, be the Lord of my life in new ways, today.
Change me in any way you want.
Wash me clean from every sin.
Fill me with your Holy Spirit.
Make me a channel of your love and grace.
          Exalt yourself through me.
Use me to lead someone else into this prayer.
In your name I pray. Amen.

If you want to change your prayer life, in general, try these exercises:

1. Take a page and journal your perspective on a subject of importance to you; something that weighs on your heart and mind. On the next page, journal God's perspective on the same subject. Ask Him to reveal it to you. Record what you sense God impressing upon your heart.

2. Write into your weekly schedule four or five hours that you reserve for solitude and silence before God. No people, no electronics, no music, no books. Just God, preferably in His creation. Listen. Record what you "hear."

In the above exercises, journaling helps sort out our thoughts and God's thoughts from those that clutter our minds every second of every day. Always compare what you "hear from God" with what we know about God through His nature revealed in Christ, His Spirit's fruit (Galatians 5:22,23), and His ways recorded in scripture. Ask God to confirm by His Word and through trusted Christians of mature faith what you have sensed him say.
