Doing church simply so that we can simply serve

Serving

". . . in view of God's mercy, offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God; this is your spiritual act of worship."   (Romans 12:1)

2010:

June 17-19:
Three ServantChurch members received twenty hours of FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) training to be credentialed as CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) volunteers. This will allow them to be called up as responders when emergency officials need additional human resources during disasters, search and rescue operations, and widescale emergencies that tax emergency personnel.
On June 21 & 22, Pastor Burford received further training to qualify as a CERT instructor.

2009:

December 22:
ServantChurch and many families from the Highlands Elementary School hosted a Christmas "Thank You" for the workers who are building the new HIghlands Elementary School, directly south of pastor Burford's home.  We served rolls, coffee and hot drinks. A 20 foot "Thank You" banner was signed by HIghlands students and now hangs inside as construction continues.

September 12 & 19:  Replaced windows at Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church .
A community of nine newly minted college graduates have chosen to live in shared community in unused church space in the urban core of Kansas City, Missouri.  Their prayer is to share the light of Christ wherever there is darkness in their new neighborhood at the corner of 43rd & Montgall (one block east or Prospect).

The the section of the aged church building in which they live no longer keeps out the cold. ServantChurch was privileged to assemble a crew to help purchase and install 28 new vinyl windows.

August 10:  Helped an Alliance family move into their Olathe apartment from South Dakota.

June 28:   Dedication of Kent & Sheeba's Nanny Quarters

After several months of steady work and donations by people within and beyond ServantChurch, Kent and Sheeba's nanny quarters were dedicated during an on-site worship service on June 28th.  Kent and his family have hired a nanny who will live in the quarters and care for the baby and big sister, and Sheeba, as she continues her recovery from leukemia. It feels good to see the amazing fruit of this initial major project. To God be the glory as we celebrate this achievement and look forward to new opportunities to serve.

March 5:
Painted, installed trim and some electrical units at Kent's.

February:
Met twice at Kent's home for worship and work, and at other times mid-week to work on the addition.

2008:

December 22:
One of our number was able to assist Habitat for Humanity as The Kansas City Chiefs renovated the suites at Arrowhead Stadium. The stadium donated the contents to Habitat for Humanity to sell at its ReStore. Proceeds from Restore help to fund the ministry. Pictured below, other volunteers not affiliated with ServantChurch load a trailer with donated items.

November and December:
We and many volunteers and professionals donated time, materials and labor (their own or professionals') to take Kent's home addition from a roughed-in, wired and plumbed shell to an insulated, drywalled, painted, lighted, carpeted, applianced space for a nanny for premature baby, Ava. Ava's mom continues her valiant battle with cancer. A truly amazing outpouring of baby furniture, clothes, diapers, and baby supplies of every kind has been collected by numerous people. The response was heartwarming.

November and December:

Collected food for Harvesters Food Bank. The Bank stocks area food pantries, which in turn provide food to hungry people and families. During November and December, ServantChurch distributed donation bags to residences, scheduling collection of the bags the next Sunday.

November 7:
Arnold Imaging hosted the Five Love Languages seminar. Dr. Chapman's presentation blessed twenty-two people with practical insights into how to tangibly apply God's infinite love to relationships with our spouses and children.

September 6 (Saturday)

Habitat for Humanity workday (Heartland chapter).  We enjoyed a perfect day to install exterior railings on two houses. It was great fun working with other volunteers.

July 31 - August 4
Four Servants traveled to Iowa for flood clean-up with Heart to Heart, Int'l.

July 27:
Moved things from the Arnolds' downstairs office/loft to prepare it for occupancy.

July 20:
Collected food donations for Harvesters.  We filled three barrels.  Praise God!

July 13:
Distributed flyers for Harvesters Food Bank, the major food supplier to Kansas City's food pantries.
Each person chose streets on which to distribute flyers.

June 22:
Assembled "Care Kits" for Heart to Heart, Int'l. These kits contained hygienic supplies for distribution to flood victims in Missouri and potentially to disaster sites anywhere in the world. (Heart to Heart is a Christian rapid-response ministry providing emergency relief in the U.S. and internationally.  See hearttoheart.org).

Our goal is to combine worship and service at least one Sunday per month.
